Matthew Berrafato, a proud alumnus of Notre Dame High School's class of 1976, has long been recognized for his outstanding contributions to high school hockey. As the starting goaltender for the 1976 Illinois AAA high school hockey state champion Notre Dame Dons, Matthew played a pivotal role in their success. His dedication to the sport is further underscored by his impressive achievement as a four-year varsity letterman. Throughout his high school career, Matthew earned all-conference honors in 1974, 1975, and 1976, and was distinguished as the MVP of the Chicago Metro League in 1975. He concluded his high school tenure as a High School All-American in 1976, leaving a legacy of excellence and sportsmanship.
Matt went on to play NCAA Division I Hockey at the University of Wisconsin/Madison

In Lansing, Mich., he served as sports editor at the Lansing State Journal during back-to-back Final Four appearances by the Spartan men’s basketball team (2009 & 2010), and a national championship by the Spartan men’s hockey team in 2007.
He was an associate editor for Daily Racing Form in both Lexington, Ky., and Chicago, and considers watching the 1994 Breeders’ Cup in-person at Churchill Downs as one of his most thrilling moments in sport.
